We decided to step out of our comfort zone this weekend and try somewhere different. We have been meaning to go to Formby beach for quite some time so we decided to go and explore on Saturday.
Driving there took me back to my youth, I remember getting the train there with my friends when I was about 16 and spending the days sitting in the sand dunes having fun. It was so strange returning there over 15 years later with a family of my own.
We started off by doing the red squirrel walk keeping an eye out to see if we could spot any – we didn’t!! Although it probably didn’t help by Harri shouting ‘squirrel – where are you?’. We then made our way to the beach where we had a little potter and play – the girls wanted to go in the water but it was a little on the chilly side.
We ended our day with a visit to Toby CarveryΒ for some yummy food before heading home – very tired, a little grubby but very happy.

Gorgeous shots, I particularly love the first one, it looks like the girls had lots of fun! #PointShoot

I wrote a post around a year ago about finally seeing a red squirrel in Formby, it had taken about 20 years ha! I love Formby, your pictures are lovely, it looks like a great day xx
They have lovely sibling relationship! #pointshoot
Oh your photos are just amazing! You’ve made me want to go to Formby and I’m guessing it’s nowhere near me because I’ve never heard of it, but I’m off to google just in case!

Gorgeous shots. It’s so weird going back somewhere you went as a child or teenager when you have your own kids! #countrykids

What a great way to arrive at a beach, that squirrel walk looks lovely with or without the squirrels. I love the way you pop out of the woods onto the beach and how lovely for you to retrace your footsteps of 15 years ago.
Thank you for popping over and sharing with me on #CountryKids
Love the idea of a squirrel walk. Would love to see red squirrels #countrykids
Gorgeous photos, looks like a lovely family day out! I have heard good things about Formby, I must take the girls at some point. Love the idea of the squirrel walk but I can imagine it wouldn’t be easy to spot one π x
I know this place very well and how amazing it is to see the red squirrels. The sand dunes are great to explore too.
Aw these are gorgeous shots!! I know exactly what you mean, I take the girls to my own childhood haunts when we’re back in Wales and get that exact same feeling.
Thank you for linking up to #MyCapturedMoment xx

What gorgeous photos. Love the sound of the squirrel walk – have never seen a red squirrel and would love to see one. What a shame you didn’t manage to spot any on your walk although it sounds like you had a lovely day out. #countrykids
