We decided to step out of our comfort zone this weekend and try somewhere different. We have been meaning to go to Formby beach for quite some time so we decided to go and explore on Saturday.
Driving there took me back to my youth, I remember getting the train there with my friends when I was about 16 and spending the days sitting in the sand dunes having fun. It was so strange returning there over 15 years later with a family of my own.
We started off by doing the red squirrel walk keeping an eye out to see if we could spot any – we didn’t!! Although it probably didn’t help by Harri shouting ‘squirrel – where are you?’. We then made our way to the beach where we had a little potter and play – the girls wanted to go in the water but it was a little on the chilly side.
We ended our day with a visit to Toby Carvery for some yummy food before heading home – very tired, a little grubby but very happy.

What a great way to arrive at a beach, that squirrel walk looks lovely with or without the squirrels. I love the way you pop out of the woods onto the beach and how lovely for you to retrace your footsteps of 15 years ago.

I know this place very well and how amazing it is to see the red squirrels. The sand dunes are great to explore too.
