I wrote a little post a couple of weeks ago introducing my home and now I would like to give you a tour, starting with my favourite room.
Our kitchen/family room is where we spend much of our time. In fact, when we were looking for a house, an open plan kitchen/dining area was pretty much at the top of my wish list. A room where we could cook, eat, chat, play and relax – I didn’t think I was asking for much.
The room is an L shape, with a clean design with a cream glossy finish to the kitchen units. Although our house is a new build, we didn’t get to choose the kitchen as it was already fitted by the time we bought. However, I love it and couldn’t imagine having anything else. We fitted dark wooden laminate floors which run right though the hall into this room, which I love.
Opposite to the kitchen we have a sitting area which includes a cream couch (well it was cream once) and a green stripe chair with matching puffy – we also have a TV on the wall.
The walls in this room are painted white, except for the back wall which is wallpapered with a teapot and teacup print from Next.
We have toys scattered around, including a dolls house and a wooden shop, which gets played with every morning by Harri whilst I quickly tidy away our breakfast dishes, stopping every now and then to purchase a quick something. It is a real child friendly room, there are school/nursery pictures on display and we also have a magnetic notice board which tends to be full of school letters, party invites and a couple of special pictures.
We all naturally gravitate to this room, it is definitely where we feel most comfortable. We start our day here eating breakfast, we come straight here after school for a catch up and me and my hubbie tend to end the week here drinking wine and discussing our week. It is the room I always dreamed of having.
Whilst it is our perfect room, there are still a few items that we would like to change or add. Firstly, I would love a new table, we currently have a rectangle light wooden one which we brought with us from our previous house. I think I would like to go for a round table, which I feel would make better use of the space.
Long term my husband wants to get some sky lights fitted to make the room even brighter and a bit more like a conservatory. The area with the TV and couch extends out beyond the rest of the house and converting this with a vaulted ceiling and sky lights hopefully wouldn’t but too difficult (or expensive). I was a little unsure of this idea at first, I did like the sound of it but worried whether it would be too bright on sunny days or wouldn’t be as cosy in the evenings. After a little research we actually discovered that Velux blinds offer a variety of blinds for their roof windows. They seem to have such a huge selection to choose from but I personally like the Roman blinds, which look really easy to fit and should hopefully help. An easy solution to keep both me and my husband happy.
But for now, I will continue to enjoy cooking for my family whilst Harri plays shop, Meme colours in and my lovely Man pours us a glass of wine in our happy fun filled favourite room.
Do you have a favourite room?

Sounds like a very happy room! I love rooms like this where you can all be together doing different things (cooking while still being able to see the children playing in the front room etc, or doing homework at the table). Love the light too, and that you can see out into the garden. #HomeEtc
Thanks lovely – we love it!
What a lovely room, love the teepee! I always loved the idea of a large open plan kitchen diner. We have quite a big kitchen so we can fit a big table in it, which is perfect for the kids to do homework while I’m making dinner x
It is nice isn’t it to be all together sometimes but all doing our own thing. Thanks for your comment xx
Looks fantastic! I love that wallpaper and the teepee is great 🙂 It all looks so bright and cheerful, what a lovely room to spend time in #HomeEtc
Thank you Suzanne it is so bright which we love. x
This is a lovely room, I can imagine it bustling with activity in the mornings! #SharingTheBlogLove
It is chaos in the morning!! Thanks for your comment lovely xx
What a lovely happy family room 🙂 I especially love the view onto the garden and the teepee. Thank you for giving us a little insight into your home. #sharingthebloglove
I love the teepee but it does drive me mad at times, it is so big!! Hides lots of toys though! Thanks for your comment Laura x
I would love a family room like this, it looks gorgeous, I love the green and kitchen units. We use our kitchen for everything, even entertaining but I think it is because it leads to the garden too, like yours. I love the idea of you stopping to buy the odd thing from Harri’s shop as you go about your business – it takes me right back xx
Yes it is great when it leads out to the garden – I love that I can watch the girls out there playing whilst I make tea. Thanks for your comment Lisa xx
This is a lovely room. We have an open kitchen dinning room & like you said it is the most popular room I the house. Your plans for this room sound great. X #Sharingthebloglove
Thank you lovely – It will take a long time to save up but one day we will get there! x
Aah it’s SO lovely!! And such a great use of space too — I love the rooms are the heart of the home. Our kitchen is a bit like that too — although not nearly so lovely as yours!! It’s in dire need of a makeover!! Next big project on the never-ending list!! 🙂 Thanks for linking up, Caro xx #HomeEtc
Thank you Caro we love it – I am sure that yours is amazing! x
Oh Natalie, this is lovely! A kitchen / dining / family space is my dream – we would love to do an extension to give us that, but I think it’s quite a few years off finance wise. It just clearly works so well for living as a family – so lovely to have the girls playing next to you while you can get on with dinner and sip that glass of wine! Thanks so much for joining #SharingtheBlogLove this week – I really hope we’ll see you next week too!
Thank you Katy we love it – especially when it is tidy (which is not that often ha!)
When we brought our house 18 months ago, we too wanted a kitchen/dining/ family space and just like you it is our favourite room in the house. I love watching the girls play while I get the dinner or tidy away. In fact we have the same shop as you, it’s fab isn’t it? Thank you for joining us for #SharingtheBlogLove Laura x
Ah we love our Asda shop – Thank you Laura. x
Great space – and you’ve got some lovely furniture and accessories too 🙂 My fave room is my kitchen/diner as it is the heart of our home. Thanks for sharing as ever. Jess xx

I am such a fan of design so I love getting glimpses into homes, yours looks so bright and lovely and I adore your wallpaper. That little tent teepee is so adorable!!!!!! Looks like a lovely space to play outdoors to! My favourite room is . . .. oh I don’t know if I have just one actually now I think about it. Design wise I love my downstairs room with my sofa and my writing desk. But I love the upstairs long for it;s comfort and huge couch where we can all fit and snuggle even the dog and cats! An then i love my bedroom as it is my oasis. Great post!
I want the tee pee!!! It’s such a great family space. I’m a huge lover of family kitchen rooms like this. Kids can be playing away whilst you make dinner…perfect for family life. Thanks for linking up! xx
